A Poem by Luis
A phantom postman passed my way,
while I was dreaming yesterday.
He handed me a thing most rare,
a letter that was not quite there.
With eager haste at my command,
I grasped it from his empty hand.
I fumbled it and soon revealed,
the letter wasn't sealed.
It wasn't in an envelope,
in fact it wasn't even wrote.
I opened nothing very wide,
and still saw nothing less inside.
The scent was sweet as I recall,
so sweet there was no smell at all.
The penmanship was very keen,
so fine that it could not be seen.
I had to laugh aloud with glee,
at the things it did not say to me.
Between the lines I read with care,
as well as lines that were not there.
And certain thoughts it did convey,
in certain words it did not say.
I read far, far into the night,
the witty things you did not write.
and at the end I found your name,
all glowing like a burned out flame.
This, that letter I did get.
